We are a long-distance dance project for people with disabilities.
We are a long-distance dance project for people with disabilities. Physical disability is a challenge, but it should not mean an inability. This is why our program focuses on dance, which most kids with disabilities believe cannot do. By helping them overcome the challenge that this represents, we believe that they can overcome any challenge that they may face in life.
Physical disability is a very broad term that covers all conditions that have lifelong impacts on a person’s ability to move their body or control its movements. It may affect the ability of a child to do everyday tasks without assistance and participate in many activities. The types of physical disability vary as much as the causes. It includes paralysis, reduced steadiness or balance, muscle tone problems, reduction in fine motor controls, reduction in gross motor control, etc. Causes include acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, and loss of limbs. Seeing that dancing is all about movement, it is easy to see how challenging it is for these children to dance. And it is these challenges that make it fun.
Covid-19 has affected everyone, but it has affected some more than others. One of the most affected has been people with disabilities. Due to the nature of their health, they require more access to Medical care but are sadly the ones with least access to medical care. Our dance program also falls under the theatre sector, which is another area that has been severely affected by Covid-19.
Dance is a universal language, and people with disabilities can speak that language fluently too. This is our vision, we want a world where people of all abilities can feel powerful and equal, and we will achieve this through dance.
The project is a non-profit, and we need all the help we can get to achieve our vision. You too can be part of the movement by getting involved, and there are many things you can do.

These refer to the various physical, mental, and emotional disabilities that a child may have, which will affect their ability to dance and how to help them combat these challenges.

Since our inception, we have been able to achieve significant milestones within our communities.

Everyone can dance, and disabilities only represent surmountable obstacles. This is the belief we work with, and it is through it that we have able to serve children regardless of their abilities.

Are you interested in the performing arts and have a passion for it? Perhaps you also have an interest in working with people with disabilities; you can get the right training to be able to do this.
At Hello Project Melbourne, we organise several projects and courses for people of all abilities and ages. The programs are tailored for specific groups, and you can take part in the programs that you’re eligible for.
